Las Vegas is one of my favorite cities to visit in the United States. It’s a must-see for any serious American tourist. There’s nothing like it that I’ve seen anywhere else in the world. At night, Las Vegas is ablaze with lights. The huge casinos along the strip are sights in-and-of themselves. Las Vegas is also just a few hours from Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon, and Zion Canyon.

I have been to Las Vegas about a dozen times. I’m not much of a gambler, but I still love the city for everything else it offers, including spectacular casinos, wonderful inexpensive buffets, and very entertaining nighttime shows.

The main part of Las Vegas to visit is the Las Vegas Strip, better known simply as The Strip. This is where most of the casinos are. The Strip runs about five miles from north to south. The Stratosphere, an 1100-foot tower, lies at the northern end of the strip. The view from the top is spectacular. The Stratosphere also boasts two thrilling rides, the Big Shot, an elevator which shoots up the top of the tower at an incredible speed, and the world’s highest roller coaster, which whizzes around the tower.

I have seen some wonderful shows in Vegas. One of my favorites is Caesar’s Magical Empire. This is a dinner show featured at Caesar’s Palace. Dinner is hosted by magicians and features some magical acts. After dinner, the group is taken to four other rooms, including a large dungeon with a flaming tower.

I was not psyched about my trip to Las Vegas. We had a family reunion there, and I had little choice over the destination. After all, in my family it was all the patriarchs and matriarchs who got to choose where we were going to meet up. They were pretty fascinated with Las Vegas entertainment, but I could not see how it would be any good. I figured that the only Las Vegas entertainers would be showgirls and cheesy lounge acts. I was not interested in watching second rate magicians and third rate lounge singers strut their stuff. I did not realize what Las Vegas Nevada entertainment had to offer. I would find out soon, however.

The thing that surprised me most was the variety of Las Vegas entertainment available. It is true that most of the entertainment Las Vegas had to offer was stuff that would not interest me. There really were a lot of lounge acts. There were many old washed up singers.  Whitney Houston and Tony Bennett both came through frequently.

Nonetheless, there was stuff up my alley as well. I have always been fascinated by good circus performers. I view it as kind of a guilty pleasure, but I had always dreamed of seeing Cirque du Soleil. In Las Vegas, I got that chance. They were one of the featured Las Vegas entertainment acts while I was there. I was surprised, as I did not think that they were touring.

I was also surprised to find out the amount of variety in musical theater. I knew that Las Vegas entertainment would involve a few musicals, of course, but I did not realize was that there were other things playing besides Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables. There is actually a fair degree of variety in Las Vegas entertainment. Rent was playing, which was something that I had been wanting to see for a long time. La Boheme was playing at the same time, which I thought was ironic. I even got to see a little bit of Wagner at a Las Vegas musical revue. I have to say that my trip has left me pleasantly surprised. I would not like to spend a lot of time in Las Vegas, but I have to admit that there are things to do there. Whatever your tastes, Las Vegas entertainment really is world class. If only there were not those casinos everywhere!

I am a Francophile.  I am in love with, obsessed with, and thrilled by all things French, Parisian, and even French-Canadian.  I was born to and raised by a French-Canadian, and lived for a few years with my Gramman, who hailed from Quebec.  My aunt and Gramman would speak French when I was a kid.  I read Hemingway’s A Moveable Feast and other works set in France (as well as by other writers doing the same in the expatriot 20s—Fitzgerald, Dos Passos, Stein, and Joyce).  I collect Paris books, art, and doodads.  And I have of late had the thrill of visiting Paris Las Vegas casino and hotel.

Granted, there are so many more options, so many varied and varying possibilities in the Las Vegas area of hotel, food, entertainment, touring site, and lifestyle choices for visitors and tourists that my focusing (or fixating) on only one might seem out of sorts.  But, that’s my emphasis.  If you are an Italio-phile or a circus lover or feel passionately about other cultures or phenomena, I understand.  You will be more excited about The Bellagio, with its water-wonderful night light shows; or the Luxor with its simulated pyramid and mystical Egyptian theme; or you will stick to the allure of the Las Vegas tradition at the Monte Carlo, the Flamingo, Ceasar’s, the MGM, or The Sands.   I have to talk about Paris Las Vegas. 

The Paris Las Vegas hotel is affordable.  It is even “cheap” or inexpensive, to use a nicer word, when you take them up on a non-weekend offer—a package deal of casino gambling coins/cash, a coupon or two for discounted dining, and even, in some luckier cases, an airline ticket price reduction.  The Paris Las Vegas is also clean, quiet, well-maintained, and staffed by clever, courteous, and accessible people.  The theme is lovely in the rooms and in the accompanying café, and the food is delicious. 

But the best part for me of the Paris Las Vegas is downstairs in the Paris Las Vegas casino.  The walk to the entrance of the Paris is a cobbled walk of shops and eateries on either side and a ceiling painted like the Paris sky (must be “painted).  Inside the Paris is really outside:  the décor, temperature control, ambience, and furnishings all contribute to the feel of being outdoors in Paris, near and under trees and, even, in some parts of the casino, under the Eiffel Tower!  From the outside of the casino building, you see the Tour d’Eiffel to scale, built as it is around and atop the Paris Las Vegas hotel and casino.  Inside, you are at the ground floor of inside the legs of the great and one-of-a-kind architectural phenomenon.

I have always wanted to go to Paris, France…not to gawk and take pictures of fat friends eating at a boulangerie or  standing in front of and pointing to (as if photo viewers will miss it) L’Arc de Triomph, but to live.  I would like to write, think, smell, see, and hear it all, become a part, become acclimated by immersion.  But that isn’t happening any time soon, so I “settle” for the wonder and delight that is the Paris, Las Vegas, bien sur.

The best shows in Las Vegas are not difficult to find. This is because this city only offers the highest standard in entertainment as with everything else. You can make a great vacation into an unforgettable experience if you chose any show in Vegas. However, you can really go all out and find the best shows in Las Vegas to make your trip extra special.

One of the most popular standard shows in this city is KA Cirque du Soleil. This is ont of the best shows in Las Vegas and it is one of the longest running productions as well. I saw the Cirque du Soleil production over a decade ago and it was amazing.

I really wanted to skip going to stage productions just because I wanted to view the sights and interact with other people. The idea of sitting in a theater was just too unappealing for me because I wanted to get out an experience things instead of passively sitting in an audience watching other people.

However, when it comes to the best shows in Las Vegas you are sure to have an amazing experience even if you are seated in a theater. We decided to see the production simply because the tickets were free. I am so glad that we went. I couldn’t stop talking about the presentation and the amazing sights I saw.

I did see the production on television years later but you just don’t experience the same thing from home. The best shows in Las Vegas have to be seen live in order for you to really appreciate the experience to the fullest extent. Even if you have seen the Cirque du Soleil on television it will really benefit you to see4 it in person.

One of the hottest productions right now is the Blue Man Group. You may be familiar with the bright blue guys from television commercials. This is considered to be one of the best Las Vegas shows running and its popularity does not seem to be waning at all.

The Blue Man Group appeals to anyone who likes percussion. I think that the experience may be like a high tech vision of Stomp. This is one of the best shows in Las Vegas if you don’t want to passively sit in an audience. You are part of the production in an odd way. I think I have to book a trip to Vegas to experience this one for myself.
